Champorado, sweet chocolate rice porridge...
Growing up in an orphanage, champorado wasn’t always available, but when it was, I would eat like a horse! I remember waking up to the smell of freshly cooked champorado on rainy days. It tasted like heaven. I'm sure it's the same for most Filipinos as it is a favorite staple in households all over the country. It unites the archipelago! What a sight it is when the young, and old, enjoy champorado together.
A bowl of champorado brings a smile to people from all walks of life. It can send a community into a frenzy once they learn that Meals and Values from Kids International is serving champorado, and so rendering the government's health protocols like social distancing, ineffective. But with the help of policemen and other force multipliers, we have figured out ways to secure the mandated rules. To date, we are feeding 60,000 meals a week and this does not include provincial feedings as part of our remote strategy to reach out to the needy in the outskirts of the provinces.
The mission has doubled the figure again as it has been done during the peak of the pandemic last year to 60,000 meals daily. Thanks to our many partners who have been faithfully and intentionally doing their tasks, be it our local counterparts, or financial supporters. Thanks to you all!
