SPORTS MINISTRY

STORIES FROM VOLUNTEERS

"Our family is on a week long basketball ministry trip this week in Tacloban.. Playing ball is fun and all, but being able to share the gospel with people has been an amazing opportunity."

James Aiton / Family / 2016

BUHAY SPORTS

KIM partners with Buhay sports in order to give basketball teams the chance to share the gospel while playing the game that they love!  The heart behind Buhay Sports is: "The Buhay Sports basketball team exists to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through athletics. Located  in the Philippines, the Buhay team spends its time traveling the country, playing basketball, and spreading the Good News to the local Filipino people."

THERE'S NO LIMITS TO MINISTRY!  USE FUN AS A TOOL OF SHOWING

HOW A SCHOOL TRIP CHANGED A LIFE

Singapore International School came to serve, but the students are the ones who say they've left with full hearts.

Singapore International School has been coming to KIM to serve for a week for years now.  Each year bringing more of their students to our YMC campus, each year learning new things and helping do what we do!  This year was no different.  Their group arrived in March of 2018 and were ready for absolutely anything and everything we threw their way.  Their week looked like feedings, helping us with the construction of four homes in Lower Mongolun, leading nightly devotionals with the children at the Children's Home, swimming with the street kids, and organizing events for the school kids.  Just like many of our teams, they went into the feedings and the construction site and walked our streets thinking that they were just there to feed or mix cement or walk, but they found themselves playing with dozens of kids too!  They saw makeshift basketball hoops at every corner and used it as a way to bring meaning to the inbetweens of their time spent with us.  Through playing simple games from a quick game of street basketball to Hot Potato and catch, they brought joy not only to our Filipino community's lives, but to their own as well!  This joy followed them home to Singapore as well.  They left changed while also bringing change to the atmosphere of our community!

This is what sports ministry can look like for you- nothing fancy, simple and spontaneous.  All you gotta do is jump right in!!

YOU CAN BE A PART OF THIS TOO

Use the swimming pool at our YMC campus & invite the street children to play!

Love children through games; form relationships beyond the court!

From street games to organized tournaments, there's no limits to where you can play.

BECAUSE IT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN "JUST A GAME."

THE YMC SWIMMING POOL: NOT JUST ANY SWIMMING POOL,

A SANCTUARY OF SORTS.  A HAVEN OF JOY!

If you're here in the afternoons and it's not storming outside, you'll hear street kids lining our front gate asking to swim.  Our prayer is that they will remember the afternoons when they went down the water slide, smiling cheek to cheek, safe and loved at Kids International Ministry.  We pray that they remember joy and God's love.

Come and dive in too!

It may change more than just the children's lives.
