STORIES FROM VOLUNTEERS

"Last night we helped deliver these little ones baby brother/cousin in the free clinic we are working with called Hope Alive Clinic. We got the amazing opportunity to be the ones to cut the umbilical chord and be the first ones to hold the baby boy and show him to his family. These kids instantly grabbed our hearts and they jumped for joy and gave us huge hugs when they saw his face. Today we got to continue to be a part of their lives as we took them swimming after being stuck in the clinic all day. These kids may never remember us or what we did, but them and their family will forever be a beautiful memory on our minds and in our hearts."

" I saw how KIDS saw a need in the community and opened doors for the local women to have their pregnancies monitored free of charge, and also a safe place to deliver their babies. Most ladies here deliver their babies at home with the support of an older family member, grandmother, or mother. The birthing centre gives them an option away from home, it is very basic with just the bear essentials....you can't ask for an epidural there, or for any pethidine, it's all natural and they seem to be totally capable with that!  Once again, showing great resilience, which is something the people here have to have from a very, very young age, resilience, without it here, they would not survive. They have to pick up, despite the surrounding circumstance, smile, and fight on. Incredible."

ELLEN'S STORY

Why Ellen has decided to devote her Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings week after week to leading each woman seated in the waiting room of the birthing clinic in devotionals.  A story of love, a story of dedication.

Ellen shares how her mornings start early at 6 am when she teaches bible class for grades 6, 7, & 8 at Cuatro Christian Acadamy, then she shares a devotional at Hope Alive Clinic at around 9:30 for the mothers coming for their weekly check-ups.  Her devotion to these women is giving both the women of our Manila community and their families a firm foundation to live their lives upon.  Ellen makes sure to let the women know that "we care for their physical needs, but we also care for their spiritual needs."

YOU CAN BE A PART OF THIS TOO

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, our volunteers can come to the Hope Alive Clinic from 9 am til 12 pm.  As the mothers to be arrive, you have the opportunity to befriend the women and lead a bible study in the waiting room before their appointments.

Our patients come to Hope Alive once a week for check-ups; you can help us by taking their blood pressure, weight, and heart rate as well as helping our mid-wives with basic office work such as organizing vitamins and supplies and/or filing documents.

You have the opportunity to feel for the growth of the little one to come by measuring the baby, taking the ultrasound, asking the mother how she's feeling, and assisting the doctors in guiding her on how to keep both herself and the baby safe and healthy.

You can either witness or assist our mid-wives in the miracle of birth by catching the baby, cutting the umbilical cord, and/or cleaning and giving shots to the baby.
