It’s been said that challenges are opportunities to see God be glorified, especially if we rely on Him. This inspiring story from a CCS teacher shows nothing is impossible with God…and a persistent, loving teacher.
Story from CCS teacher, Hanna Lene Galleta: This is Reign. He is in grade 3. When classes began in June, I noticed that he could not read. However, he knew the letter names and their sounds in Tagalog, and he is good in math. I felt bad for him because he had reached this level without knowing how to read. But then, I believe that instead of complaining, I will choose to take the challenge and help him.
In honesty there were times I felt really discouraged, and I went to the office to share my frustrations. However, the Lord is good because He sent me encouragement through people. I will always remember Ms. Aileen, our principal, telling me that the Lord has a purpose why this little boy is in my class. He also sent me Ms. Reza who shared strategies and approaches on teaching him. And lastly, the Lord is always reminding me that He did not give up on me, so why would I give up on this boy. There were times I would be upset with him, but deep in my heart I believed that he can really learn and be better. I would always tell him, “Reign, you can do it! You are good! Study hard!”
I think about the times when I would tutor him after class, and I would find out that he had gone home already. I was not willing to just let it go, and I would ask someone to fetch him since his house is near the school. I would always ask the Lord for extra patience, love and understanding, and He never failed me.
Reign has changed a lot, and he has improved a lot. On a scale from 0-10, I would give him a 5 because we still have a long way to go. But now, he can write a sentence and can already read! I am just too grateful to the Lord. His average last quarter was 73 and now it is already 75! I cannot contain the joy I have in my heart! I am just too grateful to God for giving me the strength and courage to do this. I am thankful to Him for filling me with hope as I look at this student. Now, I am just so motivated on where the Lord called me to teach. I am just so inspired to teach and heed the call the Lord gave me.
Please enjoy this video of Reign; his successful conclusion will bring a smile to your face.
Congratulations to Ms. Hanna (shown here with missionary Donna Wolfe) and to two other CCS teachers, Ms. Mae and Ms. Jenny, for passing their Licensure Exam for Teachers. Ms. Donna has been faithfully helping prepare our teachers for this exam. Recently Seoul Foreign School donated some Mac laptops that have been a great help as our teachers research in preparation for the LET. Please be praying for them as more teachers prepare to take the exam in March 2018.
God bless and may you find much joy this Christmas season!
